Ben Franklin Bridge should Be transformed into a high-quality transportation connector 

Based on the findings of Crossing the Delaware for Transportation Independence issued on June 8th, 2010, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia calls upon the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) to take the following measures to transform the Ben Franklin Bridge into a high-quality transportation connector between Philadelphia and Camden for all of its users:

  • Accelerate the design of a new ramp in 2011 to replace the three story stair tower on the Camden side of the Bridge
  • Make the entrances to the Bridge on both sides of the River more welcoming and inviting
  • Develop a snow removal policy that opens the walkway as soon as possible during weather related events

Complete the Schuylkill River Trail

 

Nine trail segments need funding to complete the trail from Delaware to Montgomery County through Philadelphia.  Send a letter today asking your Congressional representatives to support Appropriations Requests to build several of the gaps in the Schuylkill River Trail and East Coast Greenway.  You can also sign an online petition to help us reach 5000 signatures to demonstrate to elected officials and decision makers that there is strong public support for completing the trail.

Increasing Bicycle Parking in Philadelphia

Starting in 2008, the Bicycle Coalition has been working to increase the quantity and improve the quality of bicycle parking in Philadelphia.  Philadelphia has approximately 2500 bicycle racks in place and is planning to finalize new regulations, install 500 new inverted U racks and convert 1500 parking meter poles with bike rings.

A Pathway for Scudder Falls Bridge

On April 26, 2010, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced that it WOULD include a bicycle/pedestrian pathway on the to be rebuilt Scudder Falls (I-95) Bridge.
