When should I arrive?

Bike Philly begins at 8:00 a.m. sharp! All riders must be at the starting line ready to ride by 7:30 a.m. Visit our Schedule page for more information.  Allow adequate time to park your car or travel by public transportation to the start. If you choose to pick up your packet that morning, allow time to wait in line.  We strongly recommend that you attend one of our Pre-ride packet pick up locations to avoid delays.

Why do I need my rider number and helmet number?

Your number gets you access to rest stops along the way.  If you buy an event shirt, you will find a tear-off stub at the bottom of your number with which you can pick up your shirt.  Numbers also help you identify yourself in a sea of bicyclists!

Where can I find parking for Bike Philly?

Visit our Getting There page to get more information about the best way to arrive at the event and where to park.

What if I don't have a bike?

See our Bike Rental page to find out more about renting a bike and a helmet for Bike Philly.

Is there a speed limit on the ride?

Bike Philly is a ride for everyone, not a race, and riders are asked to bike at a relaxed pace. The minimum speed of 6 miles per hour is just over a walking pace. In order to meet our strict road closure timetable, the speed limit on the first ten miles is 12 miles per hour.

Is the entire route car-free?

The first 20 miles are car-free. After 20 miles, the ride is on shared roads and the speed limit is lifted.

I want to bring my child with me. Do I have to pay for them?

Children ages 12 and under may ride with a paid adult at a discounted rate.

What about riding a tandem-do I have to pay for two people?

If you pedal, you pay.

Is the ride hilly?

The first ten miles are very flat with only one hill which can be climbed by a rider of almost any ability (and can be walked up if need be). The 20 mile loop has two additional hills that the vast majority of our riders handle without a problem. The 35 mile loop is significantly more challenging with hills that more experienced cyclists will enjoy tackling.

Can I register day of?

If the ride is not sold out, day-of registration will be available.

Where does my registration fee go?

All proceeds support the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia's efforts to make the region more bicycle-friendly. Specifically, Bike Philly 2011 is supporting our Complete The Trail campaign.  We're a 501(c)(3) non-profit that has been making bicycling better in Philadelphia since 1972. Please visit the Bicycle Coalition website to learn more about our mission and work. Proceeds also benefit the Police Athletic League.

Your fee also pays for the event's cost. Bike Philly requires funds for route closures to make the event safe and fun; Philadelphia Police and barricades to stop cars from injuring riders; porta-potties so you can rest and take care of business; food; tents and tables for the festival; and countless other items. Your fee offsets these costs.

I'm having trouble registering online.

If you have trouble signing up online and wish to register by mail, please complete the paper registration form available on our Registration page.  Or contact caroline@bicyclecoalition.org for help with our online registration process.

How do I know my registration was received?

When you complete your online registration, you will receive an email confirmation. Those who register by mail or fax will receive a confirmation e-mail once registration has been received.  All registrants will periodically receive event information from the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia.

Can I have a refund?

Registration for Bike Philly is non-refundable. All proceeds from the event support our work to make Philadelphia better for bicyclists. Thank you for your support!

How do I get my rider packet?

Packets can be picked up during any of our scheduled packet pick up days or the day of the ride at the registration tent.  We strongly recommend that riders attend one of scheduled packet pick up days.

Where does the ride start?

Bike Philly starts at Eakins Oval, in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps (and the Rocky statue). All routes finish at the same location as the start.

What if it rains?

Bike Philly will be held rain or shine.
