Discussion on Doug L's Priority Issues:
1) Schoolhouse Rd and 202 Pedestrian crossing for peds and bikes
Action: Doug Levy to submit a formal request to PennDOT and New Britain Township
3) Share the road signs
Action: Doug Levy to clarify locations, then (Hans van Naerssen) will submit request to PennDOT
Swedesford Road between Ship and Church in Whiteland Twp (Chester Co)
Lower State Rd could use another sign or two
River Rd (Rt 32) between Kintnersville and Stockton (Bucks County)
Lancaster Pike (Rt 113) from Lancaster area East
Twining Rd Horsham / Willow Grove area
Terwood Rd Willow Grove / Upper Moreland
4) Share the Road Stickers for upcoming events
Action: Hans van Naerssen to look into source, costs for reordering
5) Pedestrian Crossing / SLOW / Share the Road signs at the end of the Horsham Path where it empties onto Babylon Rd
Action: Doug Levy to submit written request to Horsham Township, "present" at township meeting, along with other requested actions
Priority Issues from Steve Scheetz
- St Gabes curve / Rt422 Guard Rail over Schuylkill River Trail: Steve Scheetz working w/PennDOT to get right of way, etc.
Action: Steve Scheetz – Contact PECO's, Susan B regarding Involvement by PECO
Action: Steve Scheetz – clarify with PennDOT the process, next steps
Cross walk to Handicapped accessible Playground on Dresher Road at intersection with Gibraltar Road
Action:Doug Levy and Steve Scheetz Submit written request to Horsham Township, "present" at township meeting, along with other requested actions. Considering informing/using Horsham Rotary to support all these Horsham actions
Other Priority Issues
:• New Upper Merion High School ban on bicycles
Action: Tom McDowell to take the lead in finding the best course of action. Steve Scheetz and the Bicycle Coalition will help. Tom Mcdowell to identify school board members and PTA members who will be helpful to our cause, and identify those who will need some persuasion.
• How make county roads safer?
Action: All Present at meeting will physically Identify targeted Roads; after this is done, we will meet with PennDOT & county.
Action: John Moser Identify bike route signs that are missing or need work John Moser will look into the absence of bike route signs throughout his area, and find a copy of the MONTCO Bike Ped Plan created in the late 90's and make it available.
From Hans van Naersen – Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia
• Reviewed the "Should" to "Shall" pending change in policy, initiated by the Coalition last year, that will REQUIRE consideration of pedestrian and bicyclist needs in all new PennDOT road and bridge projects
• Indicated the favorable response to the request to include a ped / bike pathway on the Scudder Falls (I-95) replacement bridge project over the Delaware River
• All permits and approvals for Bike Philly 2007 are almost complete; this September 9, 2007 Bicycling Celebration includes a bicycle tour through parts of Philadelphia – on streets closed to traffic and dedicated to cyclists. The Bike Club of Philadelphia will hold their Schuylkill Century the day before, September 8, 2007.
• The Coalition is part of a state level task force looking into vehicle code revisions to proved better protection for cyclists
