The Bicycle Coalition's New Year resolution was to better communicate with you. We are upgrading our web page this year, our blog is stronger than ever, we will be on the Schuylkill River Trail with our Bicycling Ambassadors this summer and this month we are unveiling our new monthly email CycleGram (replacing last year's quarterly newsletter).

From the Commerce Bank Bike Philly 2008 to Bicycling Ambasadors to new bike maps, we have a lot planned for this year. I look forward to keeping you up to date on it all!

If you like what we are doing, please take four minutes to make a donation. Your support is what keeps our doors open!

I welcome your feedback on our programs and how we keep you informed about our work -- just hit reply to reach me.

Alex Doty, Executive Director
Nutter Will Hire Bicycle Coordinator
In his budget unveiled today, Mayor Nutter has fulfilled a campaign promise to hire a Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator for Philadelphia! The coordinator will report directly to Deputy Mayor of Transportation and Utilities Rina Cutler who has already met with us to go over our Bike-Friendly Philadelphia Agenda. Thanks to City Councilman Curtis Jones, Jr. for his support of the coordinator position.

Bike Sharing Grabs Philadelphia
A wet and snowy January night didn't stop an overflow crowd from convening at the Academy of Natural Sciences to hear three speakers explain how Public Use Bicycle Sharing works in Pittsburgh, Louisville and Lyon France. Mayor Michael Nutter made opening remarks, indicating his desire to "be as creative as possible" in looking at ways to increase bicycling. Read more about the Bike Sharing Forum and watch the video of presentations.

Send Mayor Nutter a letter asking him to create a bike sharing program in Philadelphia. City Council passed a resolution calling for hearings on how Philadelphia can create its own bike share program.
Rep. Sestak and Deputy Mayor Cutler to speak at Annual Meeting APRIL 6
Congressman Joe Sestak and Philadelphia Deputy Mayor for Transportation and Utilities Rina Cutler have been invited to speak at this year's Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 6 at 7:00 followed by a cake and coffee reception at 8:30. Free secure bike parking (but no dinner this year).
