Promoting bicycling as a healthy, low-cost, and environmentally-friendly form of transportation and recreation.

Bicycle Ambassadors

It is the position of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia that all users of the road should obey traffic laws.  When people bend the rules to their personal benefit, whether they are a motorist, bicyclist or pedestrian, it contributes to chaos on the streets and everyone is endangered. The Bicycle Coalition supports a consistent and equitable education and enforcement campaign targeting all road users.

Starting Friday, November 20, 2009 the 9th, 6th and Center City Districts of the Philadelphia Police will undertake an enforcement and education campaign. Starting in Rittenhouse Square, bicycle Police will be on the streets enforcing the rules of the road. In addition to other egregious violations, the Police will be stopping bicyclists riding on the sidewalk, not stopping at red lights or stop signs and riding the wrong way in the road.

In response to this enforcement, the Bicycle Ambassadors will also be out on the streets helping to educate bicyclists who may not know the rules of the road and provide tips for riding in traffic. For more information on the Bicycle Ambassadors click here.
