Last week, a dozen Bicycle Coalition staff and volunteers donned our Sunday best and headed down to DC for the National Bike Summit. We were briefed on the possibilities for promoting bicycling in the 2009 transportation bill and then headed for Capitol Hill.

We recruited constituents from each of the Congressional districts in the Delaware Valley and visited nine House offices and the four Senate offices of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey delegations. Thanks to Congressmen Gerlach and Fattah for taking the time to meet with us in person!

For the full story on pending legislation, read John Boyle's Bike Summit report on our blog.

A Vision of Bicycling: What might bicycling in the Delaware Valley be like in 20 years?

Congressman Joe Sestak* (Delaware Co, and parts of Montgomery and Chester Co) and Rina Cutler (Philadelphia's Deputy Mayor of Transportation and Utilities) will speak about the future of bicycling.

We will also share the results of our recent visioning workshop, recognize some outstanding bicycle advocates and elect new board members.

Read about our board nominees and check out our 2007-08 annual report.

The event is free and, if you bring a friend, they can join at the door.

Philadelphia to get a Bike Plan  After years of waiting, the City of Philadelphia's Planning Commission issued a request for proposals (RFP) to hire a consultant to assist it in developing a new bike plan for Philadelphia.  The bike plan is one of the top issues the Coalition called upon the Nutter Administration to tackle in our Bike-Friendly Philadelphia Agenda.
