Spruce and Pine Bike Lane Rendering
News Flash!

Philadelphia's Office of Transportation and Utilties and Streets Department will be installing a 6 foot bike lane with 3 foot hatch 'buffer" on Spruce and Pine Streets from the Schuylkill to the Delaware.  Read more on our blog about these bike lanes and thank Mayor Nutter!
Take Back the Drive

A  horrible crash in the MLK crosswalk that critically injured a father and young son on a bicycle is the latest example of the dangers of a beautiful park road that has been allowed to become a throughway. It is time to make MLK Drive safe for park users.

You are welcome to join us and please send Mayor Nutter a letter asking him to make MLK Drive safe for park users. Over 600 letters have been sent so far!

Be sure to tell a friend about this campaign.

I Bike PHL

Dear Bicyclist,

Bicycling is on the front page of the Inquirer today in a story about new bike lanes planned on Spruce and Pine streets in Center City. Please take a moment to thank Mayor Nutter for the good work the Philadelphia Streets Department and the Office of Transportation and Utilities did to make this river-to-river bike connection possible!

In other news, congratulations to Sarah Clark Stuart, our Campaign Director, on being named to the new Parks and Recreation Commission! And a story that did not make it to the front page is the Bicycle Coalition's new office. When the Bicycle Coalition moved five years ago we had two staff. Today, including six seasonal Bicycle Ambassadors, we have 13 employees!

Please join me, Sarah, our six Bicycle Ambassadors and the rest of the staff in taking the I Bike PHL Pledge. It's a simple way to make your ride safer!

River to River Bike Lanes in Center City.  Thank Mayor Nutter for planning to install bike lanes this summer on Spruce and Pine streets.

Take Back the Drive Campaign.  Thank you to everyone who sent a letter to Mayor Nutter; he has received over 600 letters asking him to make MLK Drive safe for park users.    Read more about the progress made in this campaign here and here.

Complete the Schuylkill River Trail .  This campaign's petition has 2900 signatures!  There is tremendous public support for finding public funds to complete the nine segments that will Complete the Trail in the Greater Philadelphia region and make the region's first green transportation corridor.  Read more about the Complete the Trail Coalition and its activities during June.

Montgomery County SRT.  An assault in early June on a female bicyclist on the trail near Norristown sparked the Montgomery County Committee of the Bicycle Coalition to take action to make the trail safer.  They organized a meeting with Norristown Police, created an online incident report and organized a successful trail cleanup in late June.  Hats off to Steve Scheetz, Jon Bringhurst, Phil Hoke and other volunteers who stepped up.
