| CONGRATS WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP |
|
West Windsor has proven that even fully-developed suburban townships can make improvements for bicycling and pedestrians. Recently the township has installed bike lanes on major roads and 60 bike lockers at Princeton Junction. In 2007 it completed the first phase of the Trolley Line Trail.

Greetings!
The cones are packed up, the tents are pulled down, and we have (almost) caught up on our sleep after Bike Philly. A huge thank you to everyone who supported us by riding! It could not have happened without you and the help of more than two hundred terrific volunteers.
We are sifting through hundreds of photos taken during the event and posting them to our Bike Philly Flickr set. Check them out - there's a good chance you are in one!
Missed Bike Philly? Support our work by becoming a member of the Bicycle Coalition. Your membership is a tax-deductible donation to an organization working year-round to make your bicycling experience better.
Summer may be ending, but there are still great bike events on the calendar. The Philly Bike Expo is coming up at the end of October. Our annual meeting for Bicycle Coalition members will be happening during the Expo as well. Another reason to join us today!

COMPLETE THE TRAIL UPDATE: MANAYUNK BRIDGE
|
The design of the Manayunk Bridge is proceeding along at a fast clip. A concept for the design of the trail on the bridge was presented September 15th at a second public meeting in Ardmore. The challenge for the design is to accommodate pedestrians using the bridge as a park, and cyclists using the bridge as a transportation corridor. Take a look at the design concepts and email your thoughts to Jeff Reigner of WRA.
Other updates: - Lower Merion's Cynwyd Heritage Trail officially opens on Sunday, October 23rd, with a 1-4 PM ribbon cutting.
- The contract to build the Boardwalk from Locust Street to the South Street Bridge has been advertised.
- The feasibility study has begun for the West Bank Connector, which will link the West Bank Greenway down to the South Street Bridge and the Gray's Ferry Crescent on the west side of the Schuylkill River.
- The Connector Bridge, which will cross the CSX tracks below Locust Street and provide an above grade link between the Schuylkill River Park Trail and Schuylkill River Park, is under construction. This project is the first TIGER project to get underway.

| INSTALLING PHILADELPHIA'S FIRST BICYCLE CORRAL |
As if putting on Bike Philly wasn't enough, we decided to participate in Park(ing) Day on Friday, Sept 16th. Working with the Mayor's Office of Transportation, we installed the city's first bike corral! A custom art rack, called a "cycle stall" was loaned by Dero Bike Co. to the Coalition and was installed by the Streets Department on Sydenham Street, off Walnut. It holds 14 bikes and cover approximately two parking spaces. The corral has been well received and heavily used. Saris Bike Racks also loaned two "stadium" racks, which we tested out on the subway grates in front of the University of Arts. If you like the idea of more bike corrals coming to Philadelphia, send an email to aaron.ritz@phila.gov. If you live in the suburbs and want you community to get one, have your planner contact Aaron! Let's keep the bike corral! We have permission to keep it for 6-7 weeks, but we have launched a fundraising campaign to purchase it and make it permanent. Attorney Stuart Leon has made a kickoff donation. Will you join him? Make a donation today!. |
