Our Favorite Piece Of Temporary Bicycling Infrastructure Is Staying For Good
We secured funding to keep the Center City bike corral
|
 | |
The bike corral will provide high-density bike parking in a busy commercial corridor
|
The bike corral is staying!
The car-shaped bike corral can securely hold 14 bikes and features a built-in tire pump. It was installed as part of Park(ing) Day back in September, through a partnership with the Mayor's Office of Transportation and Utilities, Streets Department, and the Philadelphia Parking Authority. Thanks to their continuing support, it will remain in its current location permanently.
We needed to raise $2,400 to keep the rack, and we made our goal! We are keeping the rack thanks to a 50% discount on its purchase price from its makers, Dero Bike Racks; generous donations from Stuart Leon the Bicycle Crash Attorney, Pearl Properties LLC, and individual donors; plus the prize money we won for finishing second in the OpenDataRace back in October.
We hope this will be just the first of a series of in-street bike parking facilities in Philadelphia. Stay tuned.

How You Can Help Build The Manayunk Bridge Trail
|
The proposed trail crossing the Schuylkill River atop the Manayunk Bridge will, when built, be one of the most spectacular pieces of our expanding regional trail network. Funding is now being sought to build the trail, and you can help with that funding!
Lower Merion Township can apply for a $500,000 grant from the State of Pennsylvania, but the grant requires the money to be matched.
Do you live in Lower Merion Township or Montgomery County? Encourage your commissioners to help build this incredible trail!
