Speak Up For Bike Lanes At May 29th Philadelphia City Council Meeting
Spruce Pine
The Pine/Spruce bike lanes would have been delayed or never installed had legislation like this been on the books
Philadelphia City Council is considering legislation that would require a Council ordinance in order to install any new bike lane.

Bicyclists need to attend this meeting of the Streets & Services Committee and support Philadelphia's need for sensible, not burdensome, bicycle legislation.

Date: Tuesday, May 29th
Time: 1:00 pm
Location: Room 400, City Hall

This bill would make our streets less safe and give Philadelphia the dubious distinction of being the best city in the country at creating bureaucratic road blocks for new bike lanes. You can read our full take on the bill here.

If you are unable to attend the meeting, or would like to make your voice louder, please send an e-mail to City Council asking them to pass sensible bike lane legislation.
Sneak Preview: A New Web Resource For Regional Trails
We have quietly been working for months on one of our most ambitious trail advocacy projects to date. With its public debut less than two weeks away, we are giving you a sneak peak at a sophisticated new website dedicated to enjoying and supporting bike/ped trails in our region.

An interactive map, based on Google Maps functionality, will contain every trail in our region, showing you what's built, what needs funding, and how you can help.
We have teamed up with the William Penn Foundation to build an online home for the many trails and trail projects in our region. This is not simply a news website, however. The centerpiece of the site is an interactive, always-updated map of every trail in our region built upon Google Maps functionality.

This site will allow you to:
  • Find the trail closest (or farthest) from your house, and plan a trip by car or bike to get there.
  • Share trips and trails with friends via Facebook and Twitter.
  • Learn about upcoming events, rides, trail openings, and public meetings.
  • Learn how you can help get missing sections of trails built.

Dedicated trail pages will provide information about trails and trail-specific events and news

The website will formally be announced as part of an important press conference concerning the future of our regional trail system. That conference is happening on the Schuylkill River Trail under the Walnut Street Bridge at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 31st.
