NBW in North Philly

At the beginning of 2010, Neighborhood Bike Works opened up a
spacious new workshop (converted from a barbershop) in North
Philadelphia, right off Broad St. on Susquehanna Ave.
The North Philly
location offers Youth Earn-A-Bike classes for neighborhood students, an adult bike-repair salon in the evenings, and will be opening a bike-repair shop, too! To learn more,
contact Cat Bergeron, the shop
manager at215-873-6665,

Dear Bicyclist, Have you been keeping up with all the announcements coming from the Bicycle Coalition? Following last month's award of $23 million for construction of missing segments of the Schuylkill River Trail and East Coast Greenway, this month saw a stimulus award from the CDC for Phase 2 of the Philadelphia Bike Plan and a $680,000 expansion of the Bicycle Coalition's Safe Routes Philly education program. Then there was the national recognition the Bicycle Coalition received when the Alliance for Biking and Walking named us Bicycle Advocacy Organization of the Year! Your financial support is an investment that paid big dividends in the stimulus awards the region has received. We continue to invest in the successful advocacy that brings
in the money needed to build trails, improve streets for bicycling and
teach people how to bike safely. Donate today and ride with pride!

Complete the Schuylkill River Trail -- Presentations on the Complete the Trail Campaign will be made in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester counties during April and May.
Help Complete the Schuylkill River Trail! Send your Congressman (and Congresswoman) and Senators a letter asking them to support appropriations requests for missing trail segments, including the Wissahickon Gateway, Manayunk Bridge and the Spring Garden Greenway. Send your letter now.
National Bicycle Summit Wrap Up -- Over 30 Bicycle Coalition members attended the Summit and Capitol Hill Day and got to see us named "Advocacy Organization of the Year" by the Alliance for Biking and Walking and then receive a $20,000 grant from Bikes Belong/REI to improve Philadelphia's Bicycle Friendly Community ranking. A big thank you to all the volunteers who made the trip to DC!
Philadelphia Bike Parking Is Growing -- Using stimulus funds, Philadelphia is taking requests for places to put 500 sidewalk inverted U racks (deadline is April 7), and soon will begin converting 1600 parking meter poles into bike racks using rings from Creative Metal Works.
