Complete the Schuylkill River Trail:
February Forum on Completing the SRT
320 people packed the Academy of Natural Sciences in late February to hear about the trail segments that will complete Greater Philadelphia's Schuylkill River Trail. Over 1000 people have already signed the online petition!
 
Do you want the Schuylkill River Trail extended southward to Bartram's Garden and beyond?  Do you want to safely ride from East Falls to Manayunk? Do you want to finally use the Cynwyd Trail?

It's been a long winter. The Bicycle Coalition is ready to take on spring with our Bicycle Ambassadors, an expanded Bike Month in May and our campaign to Complete the Schuylkill River Trail (see sidebar).
 
What better way to greet spring than with bikes and bowling? I hope you can join me at Red Bowl, our newest all ages Bicycle Coalition event. You'll have even more fun knowing that you are benefiting our work to make your ride better.

Keswick Bicycle and Bicycle Therapy are presenting this year's RED BOWL, a fundraiser to benefit the Bicycle Coalition. It will be held at North Bowl Lounge (both floors open for more room and more fun) on Sunday, March 29th from 1-4pm.  Tickets are $11 until Friday and $20 day of.  More information on our events page. 
 
This year we have added a silent auction: come to bid on bikes from Cannondale, Fuji and Specialized, wheels from Mavic and Zipp, autographed Pro Tour Jerseys, Free Overhauls, season pass to all local centuries, spa passes, restuarants meals and much more!

All BCGP members are invited to come to the Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 26th from 6-9pm at International House at the University of Pennsylvania.  We're bringing back the free buffet dinner for the first 100 who RSVP to jill@bicyclecoalition.org.
 
This year's theme is Connecting to the Rivers and our guest speaker will be Charles Carmalt, Philadelphia's Bicycle Pedestrian Coordinator.
Bicycle Coalition Hits the Capitol
 
Bicycle Coalition meets Congressman Chaka Fattah
Over twenty BCGP members and fellow  bicyclists from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware converged on Capitol Hill on March 12th to visit 15 congressional offices.  We spoke to Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA-2), as documented in the photo with BCGP members, as well as Congressman Jim Gerlach (PA-6), Senator Arlen Specter, and many other Congressional staff about funding Schuylkill River Trail projects, the Complete Streets and CLEAN-TEA bills and the America Bikes platform for the upcoming federal transportation bill.  The day on Capitol Hill capped off a very full week spent at the National Bicycle Summit put on by the League of American Bicyclists.
