Phase 1

A final draft of Phase 1 of Philadelphia's Pedestrian/Bicycle Plan was presented to the Philadelphia City Planning Commission on October 19, 2010.  It was adopted by the PCPC at its November 2010 meeting. 

Summary of Phase 1 of the Ped/Bike Plan

As the Vision and Goal statement says, "The Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan envisions a Philadelphia in which walking and biking are an integral part of daily life, and vital components of a first class multi-modal transportation system."  

Phase 1 of the Ped/Bike Plan has two components.  First, It has proposed city-wide policies on a number of topics including, enforcement, bicycle design, management and monitoring of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, among others. Each issue has it's own policy paper, but you can also read of summary of these proposals.

Second, it has proposed new pedestrian and bicycle facilities for the sections of the city that comprised the study area: South Philadelphia, Center City, Lower and Upper North Phila and Northwest Philadelphia.
